Denny Exposed

My name is Denny Martindale, I reside in Franklin Tennessee, and I am the proprietor of Martindale Artworks.  I’m proud to be able to inform you that I have recently won an award from the Tennessee Art League’s Juried Membership Show.

I have harbored a love of art, animals, and nature from a very early age.  I received my license in Veterinary Technology at Michigan State University.  I also studied first year art at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan.

A change of work venue brought my husband David and me to beautiful Franklin, Tennessee where I have become intensely associated with the Tennessee Art League.  Here I started to combine my interests and my career as an artist took shape.  I have had numerous commissions for pet portraits, murals, as well as a couple of book covers.  There is even the occasional commission for a human portrait as well.  I work with photographs as a reference for the pet portraits.  Each piece is hand drawn in charcoal, then layers of soft pastels are applied for the finished piece.  With pastels, pencil, watercolor, oil, and a camera, I enjoy creating and expressing my concern for the environment through images of both wild and domestic animals.  I thank God for letting me borrow these talents!  Besides animals, I also enjoy the occasional floral or landscape painting.

My work has been accepted into the Central South Art Exhibition, as well as other juried shows through the Tennessee Art League.  I have also won awards at the Tennessee State Fair in the Tennessee Art Division and was invited to show in the Bettye Page Art Extravaganza in Nashville, TN.  In 2001, I became a signature member of the Tennessee Art League, where I have served as historian, docent, and Vice-President and Membership Chairman.
